SUNYANIMANHENE LAUNCHES EDUCATIONAL FUND

FUND TO SUPPORT STUDENTS AND ENHANCE EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The Sunyani Traditional Council has launched Ogyeamansan Educational Fund to support students in their educational journey as well as being in the position to develop educational infrastructure within the Sunyani Traditional area, the Bono Region and the country at large.

This launching was done at a durbar of chiefs as part of activities marking the maiden edition of the Sunyani Akwaaba Festival.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Chief of Sunyani, in his address during the durbar of Chiefs was elated that the missing link in addressing challenges in education within the Sunyani Traditional Area is now addressed through the Ogyeamansan Educational Fund.

He mentioned that it was not an ideal situation that the community could not have any intervention that supported locals who had difficulty in advancing their educational career as a result of lack of monetary and other material support.

“Seeing this day is indeed exciting to me and I am sure everyone here is equally excited. The days where money dictated who should go to school is now going to be over” he asserted.

The event which was done at the evergreen Nana Bosoma II Royal Palace Park was witnessed by hundreds of people including chiefs, the business community, heads of institutions, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, the Municipal Chief Executive, a representation of the Regional Minister and several government officials.

The special guest of honour Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah the Vice Chancellor of the Sunyani Technical University praised Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II for his initiatives since ascending the throne and particularly for the Ogyeamansan Educational Fund that was being launched.

The Sunyani Technical University donated GHc20,000 towards the fund and promised a scholarship for two students from the Sunyani Traditional Council in the next ten (10) years. The special guest of honour also pledged to support the Sunyani Traditional Council with his technical expertise to ensure that Nananom meet their objectives for setting up the fund and therefore announced his readiness to engage Nananom and the Board of Trustees of the fund any time he was will be needed.

The representative of the Bono Regional Minister who spoke on his behalf congratulated the Sunyani Traditional Council and Praised Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II for the initiative and pledged his support and that of the Regional Coordinating Council towards making it a success.

The Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Hon Seid Mubarak and the Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani Municipal. Hon Antwi Agyei Vincent who graced the occasion donated GHc20,000. 00 to the fund and pledged their consistent support to activities of the Sunyani Traditional Council. In his address, Hon Seid Mubarak expressed his joy for the educational initiative of the Sunyani Traditional Council and further commended the Sunyanihene for this bold step towards education.

Inauguration of Board of Trustees of the Fund.

The Akwamuhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area inaugurated the board of Trustees of the Fund and unveiled the logo of the Ogyeamansan Educational Fund. He charged the Board of Trustees to bring to bear their professional know-how and etiquettes to ensure that Ogyeamansan Educational Fund becomes sustainable project that would exist to meet its objectives.

The Board of Trustees is Chaired by Mr Kofi Okofo Dartey. The rest are; Rev Msgr Joseh Marfo-Gyimah, Dr Mrs. Vida Korang, Nana Kwame Addae Kuntuma IV, Mr Peter Voayah, Mrs Elizabeth Sackey and Lawyer Eric Owusu Sae. Mr Kofi Okofo Dartey is a seasoned Financial Administrator known for his deep insight in organizational management. The committee consists of distinguished members with multi-faceted expertise who are expected to contribute towards the sustainability and growth of the Ogyeamansan Educational Fund.

A section of the business community that graced the durbar of Chiefs donated towards the fund with others pledging to support it.
